Jeter Law Firm LLP has announced that Todd Powell will join the firm as a partner October 1, 2025.  In practice since 1998, Todd brings a diverse background in the law, having previously been in private practice for 10 years in Hays before joining Jeter Law Firm, but also having practiced at the Topeka firm previously known as Cavanaugh, Smith & Lemon, P.A.  His experiences also include service as General Counsel and Executive Assistant to the President at Fort Hays State University, from 2004 to 2015, and as a Research Attorney for the Honorable David S. Knudson at the Kansas Court of Appeals.

 

Todd’s broad experience allows him to offer services in a wide range of practice areas, including business and transactional law, administrative and governmental law, labor and employment matters, civil litigation, divorce and family law, and appellate work.  He is licensed to practice in the state and federal courts in Kansas.  He has successfully argued cases before the Kansas Court of Appeals and Kansas Supreme Court.

 

In addition to his practice, Todd is engaged in the community.  He has served on, and been president of, the former Ellis County Economic Development Coalition, has served as a board member of the Hays Area Chamber of Commerce, is past president of the Hays Kiwanis Club, was a member of the 2005 Leadership Kansas Class, and Local Program Chair for Hays for Leadership Kansas in 2010.

 

A member of the American, Kansas, and Ellis County Bar Associations, the American Association for Justice, and the Kansas Trial Lawyers Association, Todd has also served as an adjunct instructor of Agriculture Law and Policy, Business Law, Healthcare Law, Law for Recreation and Sport Managers, and Higher Education Law at Fort Hays State University.

 

Born in Goodland, Kansas, Todd is home in Hays with his wife, Trina, where they enjoy time with their two sons.
